Does your computer have Web cam and microphone capabilities?
If you answered YES to all of the above questions, congratulations! You are now one of many Midlands residents who qualify for online-based sessions, from the comfort of your home or confidential place of your choice. But, first there are a few steps to follow, to assure optimal benefit from your online Spectrum experience.
- Check your computer, to make sure you have adequate memory to participate without getting disconnected. Should you become disconnected, it is the responsibility of the client to contact the therapist to resume, as Spectrum does not issue refunds for online sessions.
- Download Skype, a free online communication tool, which provides the most security and confidentiality, when compared to some of the other communication channels, at Skype.com.
NOTE: If this is an emergency, CALL 911 or GO to your nearest hospital emergency room. No emergency calls with Skype. Skype is not a replacement for your ordinary telephone or face-to-face professional counseling, and cannot be used for emergency calling.
- Can you talk to people from your computer? If no, you will need to purchase a headset or microphone, compatible with your computer. If yes, test your equipment to assure that it operates with Skype.
- Do you have a webcam connected to your computer? If yes, can other people with Web cams see you and you see them? If yes, you are ready for an online session. If no, check your equipment and make sure everything is connected to the proper port. Didn't meet any of the above criteria?
